From the Dean
One year after implementing a new vision for the Libraries, I want to take a moment to reflect on the beginning of our journey and our current course. I am thrilled with how our staff has embraced the challenge I laid before them last fall. We are making progress together in the same direction, setting ourselves up as a library of the future.
Our new vision relies on three pillars: transforming digital research, improving access to scholarly resources, and enhancing the library experience. This approach will make us a true nexus for scholarship on campus so that everyone in our community feels supported by the Libraries on the path to their own academic successes.
In this year’s Impact Report, you’ll read about how we’re well underway in each area: a grant that supports development of AI-driven searching of library materials, an undergraduate class that curated an exhibit after deep and meaningful exploration of rare materials, and a renovation of Deering Library that will make it more accessible for all.
These are just a few examples, but there are many instances every day when I see our staff giving their all to meet our challenges with creativity and persistence. There is already so much enthusiasm and talent here, and I am excited to see it augmented by the skilled and experienced staff hired this year to fill essential openings. Together, we can accomplish great things.
Our staff’s efforts can only be possible through support from our donors. The Deering renovation is driven entirely by donor gifts: Thanks to the generosity of supporters, we can upgrade this iconic building to support our vision for the future. If you ever wonder whether your gift really makes a difference, please remember how much we’ve accomplished with our most stalwart supporters in our corner.
I thank you humbly for your belief in us and for your belief in libraries as a vital partner in higher education.
