Edward S. Curtis's The North American Indian
Edward Sheriff Curtis published The North American Indian between 1907 and 1930 with the intent to record traditional Indian cultures. The work comprises twenty volumes of narrative text and photogravure images. Each volume is accompanied by a portfolio of large photogravure plates; this digital collection presents the 2228 illustrations.
Humphrey Winterton Collection
The website for the Humphrey Winterton Collection of East African Photographs was created in order to increase access to the materials in the collection, which includes of 7,610 photographs, 230 glass lantern slides, and other materials depicting life in Africa from 1860-1960.
Northwestern University Libraries has an extensive history reformatting brittle books and special collections. In 2007, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation awarded the Libraries a one-year grant to develop software to gather page scans, apply book structure, prepare optical character recognition, generate metadata, and present a public book viewer with both page turning and searching capabilities. The result, Northwestern Books, was launched in 2009. In 2018, this aging website could no longer be supported and the digital books were migrated to HathiTrust , a partnership of academic & research institutions, offering a collection of millions of titles digitized from libraries around the world.
Siege and Commune of Paris, 1870-1871
This site contains links to over 1200 digitized photographs and images recorded during the Siege and Commune of Paris cir. 1871. In addition to the images in this set, the Library's Siege & Commune Collection contains 1500 caricatures, 68 newspapers in hard-copy and film, hundreds of books and pamphlets and about 1000 posters.

The Menu Collection of the Northwestern University Transportation Library currently includes more than 400 menus from 54 national and international airline carriers, cruise ships, and railroad companies, with coverage from 1929 to the present.
