Software

The Libraries have a suite of standard software installed on library PCs and Macs, as well as specialized software for accessibility accommodations, media production, GIS and data visualization applications and more.

Standard Software

GIS and Data Visualization Software

GIS software is installed on desktop PCs in the Libraries.

Three high-performance workstations can be used in the GIS and Data Visualization Lab in Mudd Library. Please email GIS@northwestern.edu with your request and a brief statement about your project to access the lab.

ArcGIS Pro

  • Available for use with an active NetID for academic and non-commercial use
  • Create an ArcGIS Online account by selecting the Enterprise login and using your NetID through ArcGIS Online
  • Use for creating, analyzing and compiling geographic information

Other web software is available for GIS and data visualization needs. One-on-one consultations are available with research data specialists from the library or NUIT to find the best fit for a project.

Accessibility Software

Assistive software is installed on all Mac and Windows computers in the library, as well as laptops loaned from the circulation desk.

Bloomberg Terminal

The Bloomberg Terminal is a global financial services system that provides financial, economic and government information covering all market sectors.

Off-campus Software Use

NUworkspace offers users a Windows OS virtual desktop with a suite of software applications for University work. NUworkspace is operated through NUIT.
