Ann-Margret was born in Stockholm, Sweden on April 28, 1941. Her
family immigrated to the United States and settled in Wilmette,
Illinois when she was five years old. She attended Northwestern
for the school year 1959-1960, but left the University to begin
her acting career in 1960 when she was "discovered" by George Burns
in California. Ann-Margret has appeared in many television specials
and plays, and in more than forty-five movies, including A Streetcar
Named Desire, for which she received a Golden Globe award and an
Emmy nomination. Her early movies include Pocketful of Miracles,
Bye-Bye Birdie, and Viva Las Vegas, while she has performed more
recently in Carnal Knowledge, Tommy, Pretty Woman, and the Grumpy
Old Men series. Ann-Margret has been nominated twice for an Academy
Award and four times for an Emmy award. She is a three-time winner
of the United Motion Picture Association "Female Star of the Year" Award.
