One of the greatest athletes ever to play for Northwestern, Otto Graham (1921-2003) was born in Waukegan, Illinois. At Northwestern, he played basketball, football and baseball. He was an All-American football player. After his graduation from Northwestern in 1944 he played football for the Cleveland Browns (and basketball for the Rochester Royals in 1945 and 1946), continuing as quarterback for the Browns until 1955. In 1954, he received the Alumni Merit Award from Northwestern. After leaving the Browns, Graham became coach for the Collegiate All-Stars from 1958-1965 and was also Athletic Director and Head Coach for the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut until 1966. He was elected to the College and Pro Football halls of fame and was selected as a member of the 1994 National Football League 75th Anniversary Team. A biography, OttoMatic, by his son, Duane "Duey" Graham, was published in 2004.
