Irv Kupcinet (1912-2003)

A well-known figure in Chicago journalism, Irv Kupcinet was born on July 31, 1912, and entered Northwestern's College of Liberal Arts (WCAS) in 1930. While at Northwestern he was a member of the freshman football team. Kupcinet's first position with a newspaper was as columnist for the Chicago Daily Times (1935-1943). His "Kup's Column" was featured in the Chicago Sun-Times from 1943 until the week before his death. Kupcinet also worked in radio, broadcasting Chicago Bears football games, and in television, where he hosted "Kup's Show" from 1958 to 1986, and worked as a commentator for WBBM-TV. Among other honors, he received the Peabody and Emmy Awards. He died on November 11, 2003.
