GovInfo has been a depository of the European Union since 1970, and includes several hundred thousand documents, monographs, maps, CD-ROMs & DVDs, serial and miscellaneous publications. Many materials in the collection date back to the early 1950s.

Commission documents generally fall into 3 categories:

  • COM documents: proposed legislation and other Commission communications to the Council and/or the other institutions, and their preparatory papers
  • SEC documents: internal documents associated with the decision-making process and the general operation of Commission departments
  • C documents: legal acts adopted by the Commission in the exercise of its own or delegated powers

COM documents

  • COM documents have been issued in paper, microfiche, and many are now online.
  • There are several sources for COM documents:
    • main index for COM documents published after 1/1/1999.
    • "The EUR-Lex portal is a first step in bringing together the whole body of EU official acts for consultation. The aim is to move towards a streamlined environment for consultation of the legislation in force and of the complete electronic archive of legal and juridical texts from all the institutions. "
    • Pre-Lex "follows all Commission proposals (legislative and budgetary dossiers, conclusions of international agreements) and communications from their transmission to the Council or the European Parliament. Links allow users to access directly the electronic texts available (COM documents, Official Journal, Bulletin of the European Union, documents of the European Parliament, press releases)."
    • CELEX (Communitatis europeae lex), has been incorporated into EUR-Lex and is also available through LexisNexis Academic, click on "Legal Research."

  • LexisNexis Statistical is available through the Electronic Resources page. Off campus access is available through proxy services.
  • LexisNexis Statistical is the web interface to the Index to International Statistics (IIS). It covers 1983 to the present.
  • Click on "Search Abstracts" to search the entire IIS collection.
  • All the IIS publications indexed in LexisNexis Statistical are available the Government and Geographic Information and Data Services Department.
    • Government Information may have a print copy of a publication. Please search NUcat.
    • All IIS publications from 1995 to the present are available in microfiche. Patrons should please make a note of the IIS number for any publication they wish to see. For example, IIS 1997 2970-S2.
