Duplication
|
|
The Marjorie I. Mitchell Multimedia Center (MMMC) will duplicate
laserdisc titles from our collection to NTSC VHS format to be used
for teaching purposes in other classrooms on campus. As a library
media
center,
we
are
not a commercial
production facility and do
not
have the
resources
to
provide professional
editing
or
duplicating services. Consequently, the MMMC can only provide duplicating
services to Northwestern University faculty members who are currently
teaching courses at Northwestern University, and to verified Northwestern
University teaching assistants (TAs). This service is used for
class
viewing in a course or section that faculty and TAs are currently
teaching at Northwestern University and who are unable to schedule
one
of our
multimedia classrooms in the Library.
Teaching assistants - please note
We can only provide laserdisc dubbing services to TAs for whom
we have verification in writing (including e-mail)
from a faculty member stating the courses and quarter that you
are teaching. It is your responsibility
to insure that we have this confirmation prior to your request.
Faculty / TA requests
-
Faculty
and TAs may request a maximum of two titles. All requests
must be made during regular business hours (Monday - Friday
8:30
a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) and at least two (2) weekdays (48 hours) in
advance of the date needed.
-
Requests are made by calling 847-491-7678, or by emailing
the department at: nulmedia@northwestern.edu.
-
Dubbing
is only offered for class viewing when regular group viewing
facilities are not available. It is not intended nor
offered
as an alternative to viewing at individual carrels, nor as
a substitute for previewing original laserdiscs at the Multimedia
Center for
potential teaching or research use.
-
While every
effort is made to produce the best possible copy, signal
loss is inevitable and no copy can be better than its original.
To minimize potential problems, users should spot-check all
copies in advance to determine their acceptability. MMMC staff
are not responsible
for video playback equipment outside our facility and we
cannot
guarantee satisfactory results on other
equipment.
-
All tapes will be checked out to you and you
must have a current NU Wildcard or NU borrower's card with
a barcode. All dubbed tapes must be returned within three (3)
days. The service may not be made available to users with
overdue
tapes.
-
Tapes will be held for pickup in the Multimedia Center
for three (3) days. After this time, the tapes will be erased
and
recycled.
Faculty or TAs who cannot pick up tapes on the day they scheduled
should call the Multimedia Center at 491-7678 to change the
pickup date.
-
For intercampus borrowing of duplicated laserdiscs
(Schaffner, Medical or Law Libraries), requests must be made
during regular
business hours (Monday - Friday 8:30
a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) and at least three (3) weekdays (72 hours)
in advance of the date needed to allow for intercampus mail delivery.
-
Requests are made by calling 847-491-7678, or by emailing
the department at: nulmedia@northwestern.edu.
-
Duplication
services are not offered to students, even if the request
is made on their behalf by a faculty member or TA.
- Please see
the section under "Clip
Making" for information
on creating your own clips.
