Using the Video Theater

The Video Theater will be closed beginning June 16, 2008 for renovation of the Marjorie I. Mitchell Multimedia Center. Staff is available to take room reservations for Fall Quarter.

Occupancy: Seats 40 people.
 
 
Desription: The Video Theater has chairs with tablet writing arms. There is a podium at the front of the room for the instructor(s). The AV equipment is housed in a separate control room.

Scheduling: The Video Theater is available to members of the Northwestern community for computer and multimedia presentations and other special programs. It is not available for use as a regularly scheduled classroom or for events that do not require the use of audio-visual or computer equipment at each session. Multimedia Center facilities are not to be used for events for which an admission is charged or for which attendees are compensated.

Multimedia Center Collections: With the exception of laserdiscs, titles in our collection cannot be reserved with a room reservation. All titles in our collection except laserdiscs may be checked out with a valid NU WildCARD or vaild borrower's card and taken to the Video Theater for screening. Multimedia Center staff will assist faculty in loading media and using the equipment.

Audio Visual Equipment: The Video Theater is equipped with a fixed 7 foot screen. All AV equipment is controlled from a podium at the front of the room:

  • 1/2" VHS Videotape

  • DVD

  • Laserdisc

  • CD Audio

  • LCD ceiling-mounted projector

  • Slide Projector

  • Overhead Projector

Computer Equipment: The Video Theater's computer equipment is housed inside the podium.

  • There is a Dell Optiplex GxPro computer in the presentation podium with a 40 gb hard drive, 256 mg of RAM, a 1.8 kb Pentium 4 processor, CD-Rom and sound card.

  • A zip drive is internal to the Dell computer. It accepts both 250 and 100 MB PC zip disks.

  • A Sony LCD projector with an Extron interface that can connect to any laptop or desktop computer (PC or Macintosh), that has a standard 15 pin VGA / SVGA monitor adapter.

  • Microsoft Office XP: PowerPoint, Word, Access, Excel, etc.

  • Browsers: Internet Explorer; Firefox

Networking:

We provide both static and dynamic IP addresses, all standard networking protocols, Ethernet and wireless.

Miscellaneous Equipment:

 
  • 1 Dry Write Board at the front of the room

  • Intercom phone connected to the Multimedia Center service counter.

  • Incandescent and fluorescent lighting controls from the front of the room.
