Upcoming Changes for Facility and Collections
Due to considerable challenges in maintaining adequate space for our collections, the Music Library will undertake two major projects that will provide greater space for our collections without compromising access to the library's materials. These projects are:
Moving Book Collection to First Level of Deering. Due to overcrowding in the stacks that currently house our books and scores, the Music Library's entire circulating book collection will be moved to the first level of Deering Library. This transfer will provide more space for our books as well as for our collection of printed music and scores, which will remain on level two. The area where the books will be located, presently a closed storage area, will be accessible from the corridor between the Main Library and Deering. It is hoped that this large and involved project can be completed in the weeks between the end of summer session and the beginning of the fall quarter.
Transferring JSTOR Journals to CRL. In a library-wide effort to free shelf space and also to promote the use of JSTOR, all print backruns of journals represented in JSTOR will be transferred to the Center for Research Libraries. Through this agreement, the original print versions of the journal volumes will be available to faculty and students only through special request from the CRL, and the electronic versions in JSTOR will serve as the primary mode of access to these journals. All electronic journals available in JSTOR can be accessed by NU students, faculty, and staff via NUCat or the JSTOR site. See JSTOR's web site for the list of music journals included in this project.
As these projects progress and are completed, notices will posted here. Please direct any questions to D.J. Hoek.
