Books Moved to 1st Level of Deering
Over the summer, the Music Library completed a substantial moving project in order to create added space for the library's continually growing collection of books and scores. As a result of this project, all circulating books (MLs and MTs) have been moved to the first level of Deering Library and are now in an area that is accessible from the corridor between the Main Library and Deering. The entire score collection, which remains on the second level, has also been shifted to take full advantage of the space created by relocating the books.
The area where the books are now located, previously a closed storage area, is open to patrons during the Music Library's regular hours of operation. Books from that area can be checked out either at the Music Library circulation desk on the second level of Deering or at the Main Library circulation desk.
One unresolved matter relating to the Music Library's space challenges relates to oversize scores. Since the stacks area cannot adequately house oversize scores, many of these items are temporarily shelved on tables in the Music Library reading room. It is hoped that a solution for shelving oversize scores can be implemented in the coming year.
