Free Agency: From Athletes to Librarians
When sports stars become free agents, they are able to shop their talents to a number of teams, evaluating their worth to their potential employer, enhancing their assets during the off-season, and deciding what salary they should ask for. While we librarians don't need steroids to do our jobs, we need that same attitude that we're all free agents in the workplace. Mary Ellen Bates will give her thoughts on how to implement this strategy in the information marketplace.
If you’ve seen Mary Ellen at SLA before, you know that she really packs the room, and then some. This one is not to be missed.

International Update on Transportation Information
The most elusive information resources in the field of transportation are those originating in Asia, Africa, South America, and the smaller countries of Europe. This program will allow transportation librarians to get up to date on the progress that librarians in these regions have made toward increasing accessibility of their countries’ transportation information. Ideally, we will have librarians from those parts of the world at the conference to make their own presentations. When not feasible, we will have U.S. colleagues undertake a study of the situation in various countries and make presentations by proxy.
