Guest NetIDs and Computer Access
A Northwestern NetID is required to access secure online resources. Those without a NetID can obtain a temporary NetID by visiting a library service desk.
Guest NetIDs are valid for 2 hours. If additional time is needed, guests must meet with a library staff member for a research consultation to verify that their research needs require access to computer resources.
Alumni with an Alumni Association Card, Northwestern University borrowers with a current Borrower's Card and current students/staff/faculty from another college or university with a current University ID can request extended access at the entrance desks in University Library and Deering Library.
NOTE: Guest NetIDs are not issued during the last two weeks of every quarter for student exams. Visiting researchers needing computer access during this time period should contact email@example.com to inquire about access before coming into the library.
Where to request a guest NetID
Guest IDs can be requested from service desks in the following locations.
- University Library entrance desk, level 1
- Deering Library entrance desk, level 2
