Identify and Retrieve Maps

Most maps and rare atlases are not identified in the library catalog. Map cases are locked and require an appointment to access.

Set up an appointment to work with a map collection specialist by emailing govinfo@northwestern.edu.

In-library Use and Policies

Once a map is retrieved, you may use it in the library according to the maps and rare atlas policies:

• Avoid using ink pens; please use pencils only for note-taking
• Do not eat or drink while using rare collections

Reproductions

The oversize scanner for maps requires staff assistance.

• Set up an appointment by emailing govinfo@northwestern.edu.
• No scanning without assistance.

You will be asked to complete the Map & Rare Atlas Reproduction Agreement form.

Digitized Maps

Map & Atlas Digitized Collection a small portion of the map collection has been digitized and made available through Digital Collections.
