The Devereaux Foundation Room

Northwestern faculty, staff and students can reserve the Devereaux Foundation Room for medium-to-large programs. When not reserved for events, the room functions as a quiet reading and study space.

The Devereaux room is the Libraries' largest reservable space and has flexible layouts.

Deering Library, Room 208 (near lobby entrance)

Seating Capacity

Flexible based on layout:

  • maximum 144 for presentations
  • maximum 96 for banquet-style

Can Be Used For

  • Lectures, panels and presentations
  • Workshops, symposia and trainings
  • Academic and campus programs that benefit from an audience greater than 50. 

Events with expected attendance under 50 should consider using the Ver Steeg Lounge.

Limits

  • Events should begin no earlier than one hour after the library opens and end at least two hours before closing that day, subject to availability.
  • Event scheduling is subject to approval based on the academic year. Event scheduling must respect its primary academic function.

Room Layouts

Hybrid and flexible setups are possible with consultation. Please include in your request any questions about suitable layouts.

The room is set up as a reading room by default when not reserved.

Capacity: 24-60

Includes tabletop seating and soft seating.

Audiovisual Equipment

Instructions for AV equipment are provided in the room. Library staff are unavailable to provide AV support.

Requesting the Devereaux Room

For scheduling a walkthrough of the space or initiating a room request, email nul-events-equip@northwestern.edu with

  • event description 
  • A/V and layout needs
  • expected number of guests

Library staff support event preparation by providing the requested room layout and agreed-upon AV equipment prior to the reservation. During the event, library staff are not available to provide live AV or technical support. Event hosts are responsible for coordinating with caterers and ensuring the space is cleaned and restored within their reserved time. All event setup and cleanup must take place within the reservation period, and a minimum reservation of four hours is required.
