University Library Level 1 Spaces

The entrance hallway and book nook are small spaces near the entrance of University Library that can be reserved for workshops, tabling, presentations, talks and other formal social programs by departments, programs and student organizations.

Book Nook

Location

University Library, 1st floor

Seats

20 in a circle, 30 in a lecture set-up

Can Be Used For

  • Talks and Presentations
  • Workshops
  • Student Group Meetings

Limits

  • Events cannot use sound equipment, including amplification or music
  • Events cannot charge an entrance fee
  • Per University Policy, the Book Nook cannot be used for political fundraising or political campaigns

The Book Nook has 7 soft seats and two small tables by default. The Nook can be setup by request to have:

  • 20-30 chairs (circle or lecture setup)
  • A microphone and podium
  • Display screen with HDMI port
  • Folding tables

Please note: The Book Nook is open to the library entrance hallway. The entry provides a mild sound barrier between the room and the hallway.

Requests for AV equipment can be made in the request form. Library staff are unavailable to provide AV support during the event.

The space is not equipped to host a hybrid event.

The Book Nook has wall space for displays and shelf space and exhibits of circulating books. Contact Chris Davidson at c-davidson@northwestern.edu to discuss using the space for displays.

Reserving the Book Nook

When reserving the Book Nook, include in the notes section which room layout you need for your event and any technology you need in the space.

Library staff are not available to provide AV support or other services for events, including meeting caterers and cleaning.

You must follow all other policies and guidelines for set up, clean up, and space use found on Libraries Event Space.

Entrance Hallway

Location

University Library, 1st floor

Can Be Used For

  • Tabling for student organizations or University departments

Limits

  • No advertising for commercial entities is permitted in the library
  • Per University Policy, the library cannot be used for political fundraising or political campaigns

The entrance hall can have 2-3 tables set up with 2-6 chairs.

Please note: Tables will be adjacent to study spaces in the library. Please be mindful of noise levels while other people are working.

Requests for AV equipment can be made in the request form. Library staff are unavailable to provide AV support during the event.

  • Monitor with HDMI connection

The hall is not ideal for presentations.

Reserving the Entrance Hall

When reserving the Entrance Hall, include in the notes section how many tables and chairs you need and if you need a display screen.

Library staff are not available to provide AV support or other services for events, including removing signs and cleaning.

You must follow all other policies and guidelines for set up, clean up, and space use found on Libraries Event Space.
