Dean Xuemao Wang begins his role at Northwestern with a listening tour and a new outlook for the Libraries' mission.

Xuemao Wang, University of Cincinnati dean of libraries, university librarian and vice provost of digital scholarship, has been appointed Northwestern University’s Charles Deering McCormick University Librarian and Dean of Libraries, effective Sept. 1, 2022.

The beginning of spring quarter is here! After two years of changes and adjustments, we'd like to clarify and summarize some of our current services, both in-person and remote.

Victoria O. Akinde joined the Libraries in June in the new role of Director of Organizational Development and Diversity. As head of ODD, Akinde serves as the leader for the human resources office, with the added responsibility of coordinating all equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives at the Libraries. She represents the Libraries in committees across campus, in the community, in consortia and with professional organizations.

On June 14, the Libraries will return to open stacks and appointment-free building access for faculty, students, and staff in University and Deering libraries. HathiTrust Emergency Temporary Access will end, and Interlibrary Loan will be able to increase borrowing.

If you are an undergraduate new to campus, the Libraries can offer you in-person services to bolster virtual services beginning today, January 19.

As we look forward to Winter Recess and then the new year, Northwestern Libraries has updated its available services. The Libraries will be closed for Winter Recess from December 23 at 6pm until January 4 at 8am. Please read for information on the last day to place requests before this break.

Northwestern University Libraries, Pritzker Legal Research Center, Galter Health Sciences Library & Learning Center, Qatar Library, and the Styberg Library are adding an extra layer of security for all electronic resources, including journals and databases. Beginning July 1, users accessing electronic resources will sign-on as usual using Online Passport and then be prompted to use Multi-factor Authentication (MFA).

As part of Northwestern University’s recently announced plans for a phased return to campus, Northwestern Libraries are eager to communicate the resumption of select services.

Government & Geographic Information Collection stacks will be temporarily closed beginning June 17 through June 24. Items will be available for request.

As of March 1, Northwestern Libraries is dropping book recall. In the place of recall, the Libraries are adopting a more practical alternative: interlibrary loan.
